Mu Xiang species endangerment, CITES and Tu Mu Xiang substitution.
September 2006

Due to the unfortunate endangerment of Mu Xiang (Chinese Pinyin - Guang Mu Xiang / Latin Botanical - Auklandia lappa or Saussurea lappa), Mayway has decided to provide the well-known substitute Tu Mu Xiang (Latin Botanical – Inula helenium). Mayway, in observance of the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES), has in accordance with the Chinese government, accepted the responsibility to apply for permits with respect to endangered species when appropriate. CITES member countries monitor and regulate the international trading of endangered species and issue permits, regulated by the CITES office, to control and prevent species extinction. When trade levels are considered to be harmful to the existence of the species they may choose to limit or stop trade of that endangered species. No permits are now being issued for Guang Mu Xiang due to its endangered status. In the interest of continued service to our patrons we have decided to make this substitution. We appreciate your understanding and support and will provide Guang Mu Xiang again as soon as it is a viable option.
