Course Description

During this 2 hour class, we will review modern traditional Chinese medicine research and training for cold and flu. Traditional Chinese medical (TCM) practitioners often see patients with cold and flu symptoms. While the treatment of cold and flu symptoms in general is described in the traditional literature and in some recently published textbooks, the results of modern research on TCM for cold and flu is more elusive to most providers, and therefore not generally understood. Topics will include:

  • Mayway Herbs Connections between modern TCM cold/flu research, and their traditional training
  • Understanding of how Chinese herbal medicine is active in supporting the body’s efforts to defend against the virus
  • Research-based insights into how Chinese herbal medicines, foods and other nutrients can reduce the immune system's inflammatory reaction known as the “cytokine storm”
  • What are the obligations with respect to infection control and preventing transmission, and treating patients
  • Evidence-based information on infection control and personal/public safety measures to take
  • How the body is affected by Coronavirus infection
