Qing Dai, or Indigo naturalis, is a bright blue powder created by a special fermentation process. It is a chemical component of several different species of plants, prepared from the leaf or leaf and stem of three species specified by the PRC Pharmacopeia: Baiphicacanthus cusia (Nees) Bremek. (Family Acanthaceae), Polygonum tinctorium Ait. (Family Polygonaceae) or Isatis indigota Fort. (Family Cruciferae).
