Advanced Herbal Prescription Writing 8 Course Set

This is an 8 course series teaching the art of custom herbal writing. The first course will begin with an introduction to the course material and will highlight the primary skills required for advanced herbal prescription writing. The remaining 7 courses cover TCM herb categories discussing the most frequently used herbs for each.

This is being offered as a set of 8 courses that are each pending approval for 2 hours of Live credit by the NCCAOM and the California Acupuncture Board. Each course can also be purchased individually. Note: The first course is a prerequisite before any additional courses can be taken.

After each course is broadcast, a distance learning option will be made available. If you purchase the 8 course series but you are unable to attend a live broadcast, you will have the option to complete the distance learning option for that course instead. Course 1: Introduction to Course Information & Material

The art of custom herbal prescription writing comes from a synthesis of several skills. Essential in all aspects of clinical care is the ability to conduct a thorough, comprehensive patient interview. A sample case study will be presented outlining all of these essential steps and will include a custom herbal formula developed through the use of these newly learned skills.

  1. We will discuss the details specific to TCM that allows the physician to interview the patient in a comprehensive manner.
  2. We will review TCM diagnostic methods with an eye specifically toward herbal medicine treatment.
  3. The essential step in developing a thorough treatment plan is writing a detailed treatment principle. We will discuss this step in detail as it is the most frequently overlooked step between diagnosis and treatment.
  4. Finally, we will discuss the necessary ability to differentiate individual herbs within single herb categories based on best use of individual herbs.

In the eighth class we will take an in-depth look at the most frequently used herbs within the Extinguish Wind & Tremor category. Discussion will include examples of specific applications of herbs within the category, and common Dui Yao combinations used frequently in classic herbal prescriptions. At the end of the class a detailed case study will be presented and afford the students an opportunity to participate in both the development of a treatment principle and the selection of herbs for the final custom prescription.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Mark W. Frost, MSTCM, L.Ac. is chair of the Herbal Medicine Department at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, California. Professor Frost teaches in both the Masters and Doctoral Programs, serves as a clinical supervisor in colleges Community Clinic, and has had a private practice in San Francisco for over 30 years. He is the author of numerous articles on Chinese herbal medicine and has presented at several TCM conferences since 2014.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

All courses are pending approval by the California Acupuncture Board, Provider #680, for 2 hours of continuing education in category 1 as live attendance credits. This course is pending approval by the NCCAOM, Provider #683, for 2 hours of live continuing education in AOM-BIO.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Mayway will refund 80% of the course fees if the cancellation is at least two weeks before the start of the class (or first class for bundles), none thereafter.
